Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust was formed with the avowed objective of imparting quality technical education, especially to the weaker sections of the society. To cherish this objective and to join hands with the policy of the Government of Puducherry in enhancing technical education and also to meet the needs of our Nation, the Trust established Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College (SMVEC) in the year 1999.
The institution has been approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to the Pondicherry University, a central university.
SMVEC is the first institution in Puducherry State which got ISO 9001:2000 Certification and established the ‘Nila Community Radio Station’ with the approval of Government of India. It is the First engineering college in Puducherry which is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade. It is also accredited by NBA-AICTE, New Delhi and got Autonomous Status for ten years (2019-2029).
The institution has attained an enviable reputation by possessing all the hall marks of premier Institution in pursuit of excellence. Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College aims at equipping budding professionals with excellent theoretical and practical knowledge. It also takes pride in developing the students with leadership and interpersonal skills and thus shaping them as strategic scholars with competitive spirits who will be capable of delivering their best in the technological world.
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, affiliated to Pondicherry University was established in the year 1999 under the umbrella of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust, with a vision to offer quality and affordable education to the weaker sections of the society and to widen technical education in the society. The institution has grown into autonomous status and admitting students in the same curriculum with effect from 2020-2021 academic year.
It offers 14 Undergraduate Programs (UG) including a course supported by TCS, 8 postgraduate and 1 research program in its journey of 20 years of academic excellence. All the B.Tech UG program and PG programs including M.Tech, MCA & MBA are approved by AICTE New Delhi & UGC.
At the apex of its standardization, the institute has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with “A” grade. To add additional feather to the crown of SMVEC, all the eligible B.Tech Engineering programs offered are accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. Besides, the institute is accredited by a global multinational company TCS.
It is seamlessly blending instant to communicate that SMVEC is the first institution in Puducherry State which received ISO 9001:2000 Certification and inaugurated the ‘Nila Community Radio Station’ with the approval of Government of India. Become autonomous in the year 2019, since then as per the directives of UGC guidance,administrative bodies were formulated for the new courses and implementing outcome based curriculum and well-structured syllabi with a view on life, job, and career oriented courses with innovative teaching methods and transparent evaluation process. With supreme delight, the institute received suggestions from alumni and other stakeholders in structuring the autonomous curriculum.
To optimize leading edge technology and streamlining students’ knowledge across wide range of areas, the institute has signed MOU with Train Lab Academy and established 17 Center of Excellence to provide 75 International Certification courses from IBM, Google, Cisco, E Plan, Microsoft, Autodesk, Texas instruments, Festo, Bentley, Schneider Electric, Amazon web services, Siemens, Tally, DELL EMC2, HaritaTechserv, PTC, LN an Excellence in Technology & Didactic solutions.
With the motto of promoting technology based entrepreneurs and supporting students’ untapped creativity, it has initiated MSME sponsored TBI Cell to nurture the innovative ideas into products.
The college has a sprawling campus of 125 acres of landscape with a built up area of well-furnished infrastructure with Wi-Fi enabled campus, central library, individualized department buildings with advanced laboratories,centralized air-conditioning auditorium, Campus security cameras and Video Surveillance System,mineral water plant, hostels for both boys and girls and other essential amenities like ATM and Post Office.
The college is embarking various programs in the advanced physical hub of a new building. The newly constructed building worth of Rs. 200 crore is expected up to the level of University status and standards which adds much needed space for research, labs and classroom. As every cloud has a silver lining, the institute’s high degree of morale crafts students to unlock dark spaces to glow new lights.

This college is considered as one of the best engineering institution in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The parents, particularly the parents of the girl students whole heartedly choose this institution for pursuing higher studies as they have faith in us that their daughters will be treated with dignity. I am also proud to state that around 45% of the faculty members are women and 43% of the students are girls. The placement wing of this institution works round the clock and with their tireless effort the college was able to place more than 80% of the students during the academic year 2013-14 so far.
The institution is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in the year 2013. Ours is the first engineering institution in the Union Territory of Puducherry which has got the NAAC accreditation.Right from the first batch, the students of this institution have bagged the gold medals and top ranks of the Pondicherry University.
