About the Department

Biomedical Engineering Department at SMVEC established in the academic year 2019-2020, with an initial enrolment of 60 students, is dedicated to promoting innovation and excellence in healthcare.
By emphasizing continuous enrichment and collaboration, the department aims to expand the horizons of medical diagnosis and treatment.

The combination of rigorous academics, practical research experience, and partnerships with industries suggests a holistic approach to elevate the quality of education and provide outcome-based learning.

Bioinstrumentation

Applying Electronics and computer knowledge to develop devices that are used to diagnose and treat diseases

Biomechanics

Biomedical engineers who specialize in biomechanics require dealing with body movements. They focus on designing and developing products that help with motion inside the body. Artificial heart valves and joint replacements are some of the important examples of biomedical products.

Clinical Engineering

Apply medical technology to improve and optimize healthcare delivery. Clinical engineers work alongside physicians, nurses, and other medical experts in the implementation and operation of the technologies.

Rehabilitation Engineering

Study of engineering with the sole purpose of inventing devices that can help individuals with physical and cognitive impairments.

Biosignal and Image Processing

Biomedical signal and image processing establish a dynamic area of specialization. The concepts of signal and image processing have been widely used for extracting the physiological information in implementing many clinical procedures for sophisticated medical practices and applications.

Tissue Engineering

This specialization in biomedical engineering needs to work on the microscopic level to find solutions for bigger problems.

Hands on Training

BioMedical Engineering department had organized a one day Hands-on Training on “Medical Coding” by Mrs.Suganya, Human Resource and Managing Director, Indian Healthcare, Puducherry on 07-09-2023. Speaker started the session with basics of Human Anatomy and physiology. Then she gave an introduction about medical coding and Pathology. She explained brief about ICD coding system & CPT coding system and its importance in Medical Insurance & Medical Billing. Finally, she concluded with career opportunity in the field of Medical Coding. A total of 35 participants attended the Workshop and made use of it.

About the Club:

In Biomedical Engineering department, Technical club ‘Bio Dreams’ was inaugurated in the year 2020. It gives more benefits to the students. They are not only receiving insights from their teachers but also from their classmates, Alumni members and Industrial Experts. Through Technical club Students organisedvarious activities like Technical seminar, Debate, Elocution, Poster presentation, Mini Project development, Technical quiz programs, Quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning solving and Skill development in programming languages like C, C++ , Python, etc.

Bio dreams club provides plenty of opportunities for students to show off their talents through club activities. Theme oriented activities like Water day celebration; Engineers day celebration, etc. are coordinated by Bio Dreams club. Theme oriented activities includes Elocution, Drawing, Poster Presentation, Project Expo and Short film etc. It will inspire the students to participate in various events and to enhance their knowledge. Since, all the club activities are executed by the students; it will give more experience to the students in events organization, time management etc.. Club activities aid the students to get rid of stage fear and to develop leadership quality by organizing the activities.
